Investigation into Alleged Extortion Scheme Unfolds in Paphos
In a recent development that has caught the attention of local authorities, a 61-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with an extortion case that has been unfolding over the past two years. The Paphos police department disclosed the arrest on Tuesday, shedding light on the alleged financial deception that has been plaguing a resident of Kouklia.
Assistant operations chief of Paphos police, Michalis Nicolaou, detailed the events leading up to the arrest. A 60-year-old Kouklia resident approached the police last Friday, revealing a troubling account of being extorted for a substantial sum of money. The victim claimed that between May 2022 and March 2024, he was coerced into paying €63,000 to the suspect. The purported motive behind the extortion was to assist in repaying an overdue loan that the victim had with a commercial bank.
Acting on this information, law enforcement officials swiftly issued an arrest warrant for the 61-year-old suspect. By Saturday, the individual in question was apprehended and placed under arrest, marking a significant step forward in the investigation.
The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is actively continuing its probe into the case. As they delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this alleged scheme, they aim to uncover the full extent of the extortion and bring justice to those affected. The community eagerly awaits further updates as the CID works diligently to resolve this complex case.
