Limassol Police Ramp Up Operations Over Bank Holiday Weekend
In a recent statement, authorities in Limassol disclosed the results of intensified police operations conducted over the bank holiday weekend. From March 29 to April 1, a significant enforcement push resulted in numerous fines and arrests, highlighting the police’s commitment to maintaining public safety and order.
The operations saw 811 vehicles and 833 individuals stopped for checks, with an additional 147 alcotests administered to drivers. The crackdown on drink driving led to 20 fines, underscoring the police’s zero-tolerance policy towards this dangerous behavior. Traffic violations also drew considerable attention, with 134 fines issued for various infractions. Notably, 31 cases were deemed serious enough to be referred to court.
In their pursuit of safety on the roads, police also targeted vehicles operating without proper licensing. A total of 10 cars, four motorcycles, and three scooters were seized after being found without licence plates. The operations extended beyond traffic enforcement, with raids on two homes and two other buildings leading to the recovery of three stolen motorbikes and a stolen hunting rifle. These discoveries resulted in six fines being issued.
The police’s comprehensive approach also addressed other criminal activities. Three individuals were arrested for illegal drug possession, indicating the ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse. The weekend’s operations also included responses to two reported burglaries and an arson case in an open field, reflecting the diverse nature of challenges faced by law enforcement.
