Expansion of Goods Transportation Under Green Line Regulation
In a significant move towards enhancing trade and cooperation, the list of goods permitted for transport under the Green Line regulation is being broadened. The Ministerial Council has recently endorsed a proposal from the Foreign Minister, empowering the Ministers of Health and Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment to streamline the process for certain products at crossing points.
With this authorization, processed non-animal origin products such as coffee, lemonade, frozen vegetables, potatoes, vinegar, and dried molokhia are set to enjoy smoother transit. The competent services of the respective ministries are tasked with conducting necessary checks in line with Regulation (EC) No 866/2004. This is a strategic step to facilitate trade across the divide, reflecting a commitment to economic integration and mutual benefit.
The Customs Department is also being kept in the loop, as it holds the responsibility for inspection at the crossing points. This coordination ensures that the implementation of the Ministerial Council’s decision from March 13, 2024, is seamless and effective.
This latest decision builds on a comprehensive package of 14 measures aimed at supporting Turkish Cypriots, unveiled by the Presidency earlier this year. Among these measures are initiatives to expedite citizenship applications, provide access to healthcare services, and enhance participation in educational and cultural programs. The government’s approach underscores a concerted effort to foster inclusivity and support for all communities on the island.
The expansion of the goods list under the Green Line Regulation by adding six specific products is just one facet of a broader strategy to strengthen ties and promote prosperity. This initiative not only benefits traders but also serves as a bridge between communities, paving the way for a future of shared growth and cooperation.
