Limassol 2024 Opap Marathon Gears Up for Record Attendance
The coastal city of Limassol is abuzz with anticipation as the Limassol 2024 Opap Marathon is set to welcome a record number of participants and spectators. The organizers have announced an expected attendance of 17,000, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s 15,000 attendees.
At the heart of the event’s success is the dedication and expertise of the team behind it, praised by Limassol Mayor Nikos Nicolaidis for their professionalism, vision, and social sensitivity. This year’s marathon, which stands as the largest sporting event in Cyprus, is a collaborative effort between the Municipality of Limassol, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Board (Etal), and Eleven Blue Events.
The marathon has truly taken on an international flavor, with approximately 3,000 runners from 70 different countries set to participate. This diverse representation underscores the global appeal of the marathon and its significance as a unifying sporting event.
In a gesture that combines cultural ambition with athletic endeavor, a portion of the proceeds from this year’s marathon will contribute to Limassol’s bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2030. This move reflects the city’s commitment to cultural development and its use of high-profile events to promote its candidacy.
The two-day event, scheduled for April 13 and 14, promises to be a vibrant showcase of endurance and community spirit. As runners lace up their shoes and spectators prepare to cheer them on, the Limassol 2024 Opap Marathon is poised to be a highlight on the international sporting calendar and a beacon of cultural aspiration for the city.
