FSRU Prometheus Nears Completion
In a recent update that signals a significant stride in Cyprus’s energy infrastructure, Yiorgos Papanastasiou, the Minister of Energy, shared promising news on the ALPHA News programme. The Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) Prometheus, a pivotal construction project undertaken by the Chinese company CPP, is on the brink of completion.
The Minister, having been in direct communication with the surveyor overseeing the project, conveyed that the FSRU Prometheus is ready and awaiting its final certification. This crucial step is anticipated to be finalized within days, marking the end of a meticulous construction and inspection phase.
Once the certification process is concluded, CPP will extend an official invitation to the Republic of Cyprus for the ceremonial handover of the vessel. Papanastasiou expressed confidence that this milestone event, which will see the FSRU set sail for Cyprus, is expected to occur in May.
The arrival of the FSRU Prometheus heralds a new era for Cyprus’s energy sector, promising enhanced capabilities for natural gas storage and regasification. This development is not only a testament to the fruitful international collaboration between Cyprus and CPP but also underscores the Republic’s commitment to bolstering its energy autonomy and sustainability.
Stakeholders in the energy industry and citizens alike are looking forward to the official handover and the subsequent benefits that the FSRU Prometheus will bring to the island nation’s energy landscape.
