Classical Music Enthralls Cyprus This April
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is set to captivate music enthusiasts across Cyprus with a series of concerts throughout April, showcasing a blend of celebrated and emerging talent. The Premiere 5 concerts will kick off the month’s festivities in Nicosia, Paphos, and Larnaca on April 10, 11, and 12, respectively. These performances will spotlight the virtuosity of violinist Antonis Bargilly with Douglas Boyd at the helm of the orchestra. Audiences will be treated to the timeless melodies of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the emotional depths of Mozart’s Symphony no. 40 in G minor.
As the month progresses, the orchestra will honor Holy Week with performances dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem in D minor. Scheduled for April 24 and 25 in Limassol and Nicosia, these concerts pay tribute to Marinos Mitellas for his longstanding service on the foundation’s board. The stage will be graced by a cadre of esteemed artists including conductor Gregory Buchalter, sopranos Mariza Anastasiades and Margarita Elia, tenor Andreas Aroditis, and Czech baritone Martin Vodrážka. The powerful voices of the Aris Choir of Limassol, along with guest choirs from the Czech Republic, will amplify the emotional resonance of the Requiem.
The month’s grand finale will be an innovative collaboration featuring the Really Big Chorus from the UK and the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. This concert will introduce the CyYSO Choir and is slated for April 28 in Nicosia. Under the direction of Brian Kay, the ensemble will perform the Cyprus premiere of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, a poignant work for mezzo-soprano, symphony orchestra, and chorus.
