Continued Efforts in Larnaca for Mosquito Control
In an ongoing effort to maintain public health and comfort, the Larnaca Municipality has announced that it is persistently carrying out systematic spraying to keep the mosquitoes at bay. This initiative is part of a broader campaign to ensure the well-being of both residents and visitors by mitigating the nuisance and potential health risks posed by these insects.
The municipality’s Health Service Officers and teams are at the forefront of this operation. They are not only focusing on general urban areas but are paying special attention to critical breeding grounds such as the Salt Lakes. It’s here that mosquito populations tend to flourish, and as such, these areas are being treated with
Beyond natural reserves, urban infrastructure like storm drains, open channels, and abandoned pools are also being targeted. These are typical hotspots for mosquito larvae, especially during periods of high temperatures when conditions become ideal for mosquitoes to breed.
The municipality is taking a proactive stance by also advising residents on how they can contribute to the mosquito control efforts. Simple measures such as eliminating stagnant water in containers, barrels, or old tanks can significantly reduce breeding sites. Additionally, clearing wild vegetation can deprive mosquitoes of their shelter, further disrupting their life cycle.
To assist the public in these endeavors or to address any concerns, Larnaca Municipality has made available contact numbers for its Health Service (24816557/559/562) and the Suggestions and Complaints Office (24816530). They welcome inquiries and feedback as part of their comprehensive approach to community health management.
Visual evidence of the municipality’s dedication can be seen in recently released photos capturing the spraying process around the Great Salt Lake area. These images not only highlight the thoroughness of the efforts but also serve as a reminder of the continuous battle against mosquitoes and the importance of community involvement in maintaining a healthy environment.
