City Friends Club Spearheads Sustainable Future in Limassol
Limassol’s City Friends Club (CFC), under the leadership of CEO and Founder Anna Gubareva, is making strides in environmental stewardship and waste reduction. The non-profit organisation, established in 2020, has become a beacon of sustainability in Cyprus, engaging communities and local businesses in its mission.
Gubareva, with her background in art therapy and human ecology, has steered CFC towards impactful initiatives. The organisation’s clean-up campaigns, educational programmes, and advocacy for a zero-waste lifestyle have resonated across the island nation. In 2023, CFC’s efforts resulted in the removal of significant amounts of waste from Limassol’s parks and streets.
Local businesses are also part of CFC’s sustainable vision. Through corporate programmes like ‘Green Office’ and ‘Eco Quiz’, companies are embracing environmental responsibility. These initiatives double as team-building exercises, strengthening community ties and corporate social responsibility.
Community participation is at the heart of CFC’s success. Volunteers are recognised for their contributions to street cleaning through awards, social media campaigns, and partnerships with ambassadors. The organisation’s ‘Trash Talks’ series and environmental art projects like RE:SOURCE further highlight the importance of sustainability through creative expression.
Education is a cornerstone of CFC’s approach. Interactive quizzes for children and collaborations with schools and universities aim to instil a deep understanding of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. By integrating art and education, CFC is raising awareness about sustainable development and the importance of nature.
Public events are another area where CFC demonstrates its commitment to the environment. By using digital billboards and avoiding paper waste, the organisation sets an example for sustainable event management. Waste separation containers provided at festivals are just one way CFC helps reduce the environmental footprint of public gatherings.
As CFC continues to expand its reach in Cyprus, it emphasises the importance of collective action and government support. With plans to extend its influence beyond Limassol, the organisation remains dedicated to fostering a culture of responsibility and sustainability for the well-being of Cyprus and its residents.
