A Musical Odyssey Through Cyprus
As the Mediterranean sun sets, the island of Cyprus prepares for a series of musical events that promise to enchant audiences with a blend of traditional and classical harmonies. The Gaba Project, featuring Vasilis Vasiliou, Christina Polycarpou, and Nicolas Tryphonos, is set to deliver an auditory feast with their handpan, lyra, and double bass concert in Limassol on April 14.
The trio will perform at Ypogeia Skini/Polichoros Synergeio at 8 pm, offering a fresh take on the musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean. The performance will transform the rhythms of Armenia, Cyprus, Turkey, and Bulgaria into a contemporary soundscape that resonates with the region’s rich cultural tapestry.
Continuing the musical journey, the Strovolos Municipal Theatre in Nicosia will host a grand collaboration on April 20. Over 100 musicians from Sistema Cyprus, alongside youth from France’s Cantal region, will unite under the baton of conductor Santiago Ossa Alzate. The Mélange Musical will feature a multicultural programme that spans compositions from Cyprus to Cuba, showcasing the universal language of music.
On the same evening, history and melody will intertwine at Kolossi Castle in Limassol. Pianist Tatiana Stupak is slated to perform the From Baroque to Romanticism concert, marking an unprecedented grand piano recital within the castle’s ancient walls. The repertoire will journey through time with pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and more, including a local touch with an Etude by Cypriot composer David Pentecost. Accompanying the musical delight, an art exhibition by Anna Privaloff will offer visual splendor to visitors.
These events are not just concerts; they are cultural bridges connecting Cyprus’s storied past with its vibrant present. As tickets become available, music enthusiasts are encouraged to partake in these unique experiences that celebrate the island’s diverse artistic heritage.
