Early Morning Operation Targets Illegal Migrants in Chlorakas
In a sweeping operation that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, dozens of police officers descended upon the town of Chlorakas, with a mission to uncover illegal migrants. The operation, which extended into the neighboring area of Tremithousa, saw law enforcement officials meticulously combing through residential areas in search of those residing unlawfully.
Commencing at the break of dawn, 6am to be precise, the operation spanned a total of three hours. The officers’ first port of call was the Saint Nicholas (Ayios Nikolaos) apartment complex. Here, they executed a thorough inspection of the premises, adhering to a government decree that prohibits residency in these apartments. Despite the extensive search of 300 units, the complex was found to be devoid of inhabitants.
The operation then shifted focus to the Ayios Georgios apartment complex situated in Tremithousa-Emba. Armed with warrants, officers were authorized to search a dozen apartments within this complex. A total of 40 individuals were subjected to checks by the police force. However, the outcome proved uneventful as none of those checked bore any criminal records nor were they found to be in Cyprus without proper authorization.
The police have emphasized that this operation is just one of many to come. With a commitment to uphold the law and ensure the safety and legality of its residents, further checks have been promised in the near future. This proactive approach by the local law enforcement aims to maintain order and prevent any illegal residency within the region.
