Arrests Made in Paphos Car Arson Investigation
In a recent development in Paphos, authorities have taken two individuals into custody in connection with a car arson case that has been under investigation. The suspects, aged 26 and 23, were arrested on Tuesday, following a series of events that began with the arrest of a 19-year-old resident on March 30 for the same incident.
The arson attack occurred on March 28 in a village within the district, where two vehicles were set ablaze around 10pm. The fire resulted in the total destruction of the cars, which were parked outside the owners’ residence. Police investigations revealed that the fire was intentionally set using flammable materials.
After an initial probe, a 19-year-old man became a person of interest and was subsequently arrested by court warrant to assist with the investigation. He was held for four days but was released without charge upon the expiry of his detention order. However, the investigation remains open as authorities await the results of scientific tests.
Further inquiries led to incriminating testimony against two additional suspects. The police acted swiftly, securing arrest warrants and apprehending the duo on Thursday. The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is actively continuing its investigation to uncover further details and determine the motive behind the arson.
The community has been on high alert since the incident, and the latest arrests have provided some reassurance to local residents. The police have not disclosed if the suspects are known to the vehicle owners or what might have prompted the arson. As the CID delves deeper, they are expected to release more information once available.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and solve crimes that disturb the peace and safety of local communities. The Paphos police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
