Tragedy Strikes During Migrant Raid in Limassol
In a recent operation that has cast a somber mood over Limassol, police conducted a migrant raid that led to the death of one man and the serious injury of another. The incident unfolded after authorities received a tip-off about undocumented migrants residing within an apartment complex.
Upon arrival at the fifth-floor apartment, two men made a desperate attempt to evade the immigration check, resulting in one man sustaining fatal injuries from a fall from a bedroom window, and another seriously injured after leaping from the balcony. The Limassol Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief Lefteris Kyriakou confirmed the events, stating that the remaining nine individuals present in the apartment were taken into custody for processing, along with another person from an adjacent unit.
Kyriakou revealed that all individuals involved were undocumented migrants believed to be from Bangladesh. Following the incident, high-ranking officials including the Limassol Police chief and the Assistant Limassol Police chief, as well as CID officers, were present at the scene. State coroners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou were also called to conduct examinations.
The community is now grappling with the consequences of the raid, as investigations continue to unfold. The incident raises questions about the dangers faced by undocumented migrants and the measures taken during such operations. As authorities work to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome, there is a growing call for a review of protocols to prevent future loss of life.
