Limassol Marathon Leads to Weekend Traffic Changes
The bustling city of Limassol is gearing up for an exciting weekend as the annual marathon takes over the streets. Event organisers have laid out comprehensive traffic arrangements to ensure the smooth flow of the weekend’s activities, which promise to draw a large crowd of both participants and spectators.
On Saturday, April 13, athletes will take to the streets for a five-kilometre road race. The event will see the coastal front of Limassol transformed into a runner’s haven from 8am to 11pm. Specifically, the stretch from the beginning of Anexartisias street up to the Crowne Plaza hotel will be off-limits to vehicles. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
The main event unfolds on Sunday, April 14, with the marathon dominating the day’s activities. Runners will pace through a scenic route that affects several key roads. The coastal road from Asomatos to Ladies Mile will be bustling with marathon action, extending to the roundabout of the new port and along Franklin Roosevelt avenue. The closure will also include the coastal front up to Elias Beach hotel. These roads will be closed from 6.30am to 1.30pm, allowing ample time for the marathon to conclude and for cleanup operations to take place.
In addition to these closures, a specific note is made for Sunday’s traffic near one of Limassol’s popular attractions. The road leading from the Fasouri waterpark exit to the Limassol marina is scheduled to be closed from 6.30am to 9.30am. This temporary measure is set to provide a safe corridor for participants as they make their way through the course.
With these traffic arrangements in place, the Limassol marathon is poised to be yet another successful event, showcasing the city’s commitment to promoting health, sportsmanship, and community spirit. Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes and public transportation where possible, and everyone is invited to come out and support the runners in what is sure to be a memorable weekend.
