World of Patterns: A Glimpse into Peter Bird’s Artistic Realm
The quaint Lefkara village is set to become a hub of artistic exploration this month as the Mola Culture Factory opens its doors to an exhibition featuring the works of its resident artist, Peter Bird. Since making Cyprus his home in 2009, Bird has become known for his relentless dedication to creating sculptures and paintings that are both intricate and imaginative.
Bird’s artistic odyssey was sparked by an encounter with the ancient stonework of Egypt. The minimal gaps between the blocks inspired him to experiment with fine lines that approach each other but never touch. This concept evolved as he drew inspiration from the artistic expressions of native cultures around the globe, including the Aztecs. Through years of refinement, Bird has mastered a unique fine line technique, employing specially cut and curved brushes to achieve a seamless flow.
In his creative process, Bird adorns everyday objects and repurposed materials with his signature designs. These objects, often featuring masks, are meticulously covered with a layer of varnish upon completion, giving them the appearance of artefacts or miniature temples from a civilization born out of Bird’s imagination. He describes his work as being created in a transcendent meditative state, which is palpable in the serene complexity of his art.
The “World of Patterns” exhibition promises to be a journey through Bird’s visionary world. It will be held at the Mola Culture Factory, a space known for its commitment to cultural enrichment within the community. The exhibition is scheduled from April 20 to May 20, with an opening event that is sure to captivate attendees. To complement the visual feast, violinist Danielle Klimiene will grace the opening with a live classical music performance, creating an immersive experience for all senses.
Art enthusiasts and curious visitors can immerse themselves in Bird’s World of Patterns daily from 10 am to 5 pm at the Mola Culture Factory, formerly known as the Old Olive Mill. For further information or inquiries about the exhibition, interested parties can contact the organizers at 99-740987.
