Tsitsipas Triumphs at Monte Carlo Masters
In a display of sheer dominance, Stefanos Tsitsipas claimed his third Monte Carlo Masters title in a convincing fashion, defeating Norway’s Casper Ruud with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-4. The Greek tennis star, who has been showcasing his prowess on clay courts, made the victory look effortless as he sailed through the first set by winning six consecutive games in just over half an hour.
The second set saw a more determined Ruud, but Tsitsipas’s strength on the court was undeniable. With this win, Tsitsipas etched his name in history as the first player to win his initial three Monte Carlo finals in straight sets since the professional era began.
Following a remarkable semi-final win over Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner, Tsitsipas secured his first title of the year, increasing his career titles to 11. His victory places him alongside tennis legends such as Rafa Nadal and Bjorn Borg, who have also won the Monte Carlo title at least three times.
Expressing his joy, Tsitsipas shared, “Capturing that win today was nerve-wracking. I really wanted the trinity so I got it. I’m extremely happy today.” He extended his gratitude towards his family and friends for their unwavering support.
With this win, Tsitsipas is set to make a comeback into the world’s top 10 rankings, a position he briefly lost earlier in the year for the first time since 2019. On the other side of the net, it was a disappointing outcome for Ruud, who had previously defeated world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. Despite his losses in the finals of the Mexican and Los Cabos Open earlier this year, Ruud graciously congratulated Tsitsipas on his well-deserved victory.
Ruud remarked, “You love this tournament. Very, very well played all week… You’re a fantastic player and especially on clay and Monte Carlo… Congratulations to you and your team.”
Tsitsipas’s victory at Monte Carlo is a testament to his exceptional skill on clay and serves as a promising indicator for the upcoming clay season.
