Repeat Offender Sentenced for Kiosk Robberies in Paphos
In a striking case of déjà vu, a 25-year-old man from Paphos has been sentenced to five years behind bars after committing two armed robberies at the same local kiosk. The Paphos police, led by assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou, have confirmed the details of the brazen thefts that have recently shaken the community.
The first incident occurred on March 8, 2023, when the man made off with €300 from the kiosk’s cash register. Displaying a boldness that left local law enforcement stunned, he returned to the scene of his initial crime just two days later. In this second robbery, he successfully pilfered an additional €400.
However, his criminal spree was short-lived. The perpetrator was apprehended by police on March 11. A subsequent search of his apartment, which was conveniently located near the kiosk, yielded a trove of incriminating evidence. Authorities discovered a dummy gun, believed to be the weapon used in the robberies, alongside a black balaclava and black gloves—both cunningly concealed within a loudspeaker.
Further adding to the evidence pile, the police found €195 in cash, a pair of shoes, and black clothing items that were promptly seized. These items are thought to have been used during the commission of the crimes and will serve as crucial evidence in cementing the man’s conviction.
The swift action of the Paphos police has brought a measure of relief to the local community, which had been rattled by the audacity of the repeat offenses. The sentencing also sends a clear message to potential offenders about the serious consequences of engaging in such criminal activities.
