Fire Service Tackles Multiple Blazes in 24 Hours
The Fire Service has been working tirelessly, responding to a series of incidents that have kept the emergency teams on their toes. Within the last day, a total of 43 incidents have been reported, with more than half of them being fires. This information was shared by the Fire Service spokesperson, Andreas Kettis, who took to the X platform to provide updates on the situation.
Among these incidents, a significant blaze captured attention due to its scale and impact. At 1 pm on Wednesday, a fire erupted near the villages of Akaki and Deneia in the Nicosia district, quickly spreading over an area of one square kilometre. The fire consumed dry grass, wild vegetation, and eucalyptus trees in its path. Furthermore, the fire’s wrath did not spare infrastructure; several electricity poles and irrigation hoses fell victim to the flames.
To combat the blaze, the Fire Service mobilized a considerable response. Three fire trucks from local fire stations were dispatched alongside one from the forestry department. Additionally, two excavators were brought in to assist with the efforts. After four hours of intense work, the fire was successfully brought under control at 5pm.
With the immediate danger quelled, attention has now turned to understanding how the fire started. The Fire Service is currently conducting thorough investigations into the causes of the fire, working in close cooperation with the police. The community breathes a sigh of relief as the emergency services continue to protect and serve, ensuring safety and minimizing damage during these critical incidents.
