Leadership Change at Cyprus Police Association
In a sudden move that has caught many by surprise, Kyriakos Charalambous, the chairman of the Cyprus Police Association, has tendered his resignation effective immediately. The announcement came on Thursday, marking the end of a tenure that spanned nearly a decade.
Charalambous’s departure from his position was explained through a letter where he pointed to “personal issues” and an uptick in his professional obligations. These reasons have prompted him to relinquish his duties, which he has carried out since he took office seven years ago.
Reflecting on his time as chairman, Charalambous highlighted the fulfillment of “three clear goals” he had set upon his election. These objectives, which at the outset might have appeared daunting, were met through “effort and countless hours of work.” His leadership saw significant strides such as the alignment of police working hours with those of the public service and the establishment of a pension plan for officers who previously lacked coverage.
In his parting message, Charalambous emphasized the importance of unity within the association. He encouraged members to remain cohesive in their mission to support and fortify both the association and the broader police force. Affirming his ongoing commitment, he assured his colleagues that he would continue to stand with them, albeit in a different capacity.
The association now faces the task of finding a successor who can build upon the foundations laid by Charalambous and steer the organization forward in its continued service to its members and the community at large.
