Illegal Installations of Photovoltaic Systems Uncovered
In a recent development, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has uncovered two illegal installations of photovoltaic systems on commercial properties. Christina Papadopoulou, a representative for the EAC, shared this information during an interview with radio Trito. These unauthorized connections to the power network are contributing to the overloading of the electricity grid, which is already experiencing increased pressure due to a surge in residential solar panel installations.
The discovery of these illegal setups comes at a time when electricity costs are on the rise. Papadopoulou noted that electricity bills have seen an increment of 2.5 percent compared to the previous month. This increase is partially attributed to the nation’s commitment to achieving renewable energy targets, which necessitates significant investment and infrastructure adjustments.
The situation underscores the challenges faced by energy providers as they balance the integration of sustainable energy sources with maintaining a stable and reliable electricity grid. The EAC’s findings highlight the need for stricter monitoring and regulation to prevent unauthorized connections that can jeopardize the integrity of the power supply system.
