Eternal Light Concert Series Unites Renowned Musicians

Music as Eternal Light

As the season of renewal intertwines with the solemnity of Holy Week, a concert series is set to illuminate the hearts of music enthusiasts in Cyprus. Soprano Zoe Nicolaidou, violinist Nikos Pittas, and pianist Zbynek Maruska, alongside the harmonious voices of the EMMELEIA choir, will perform a repertoire designed to convey a sense of eternal light through their music.

The first of these enchanting evenings will grace the Municipal Theatre G. Lykourgos in Larnaca on April 22, with Eleni Kyprianou wielding the conductor’s baton. The series will then proceed to captivate the audience at St Catherine Catholic Church in Limassol on April 26. The musicians are poised to deliver a transcendent experience through their renditions of classical and spiritual pieces.

Audiences can expect to be moved by the celestial notes of “Casta Diva” from Bellini’s opera Norma, a piece synonymous with the legendary Maria Callas. The program also includes the stirring “Ave Maria,” C. Frank’s “Panis Angelicus,” and Albinoni’s evocative “Adagio.” The journey through musical landscapes will continue with Ravel’s “Hebrew Melodies,” and the emotive Czech compositions “Píseň lásky” and “Songs My Mother Taught Me” by J Suk and A Dvořák, respectively.

The EMMELEIA choir will then take center stage with D Lim’s “Call of the Angels” and the profound byzantine troparion “Lord of the Powers.” To culminate the evening, all performers will unite for a grand finale featuring the classical crossover hits “The Prayer” and “Hallelujah,” promising to leave the audience with a lasting impression of beauty and serenity.

Tickets for this soul-stirring concert series are available for €10, with performances scheduled for 8:30 pm in Larnaca and 8 pm in Limassol. For reservations and further information, patrons are encouraged to contact 24-665795 or 99-683356.
