New Leadership at the Cyprus Police Association
In a recent turn of events, the Cyprus Police Association (CPA) has seen a change in its leadership. Giorgos Georgiou has stepped up as the new chairman following the resignation of Kyriakos Charalambous, who cited personal reasons and increased professional commitments for his departure. Georgiou, expressing his dedication to the role, has vowed to address the concerns of the CPA members with urgency and efficiency.
Georgiou’s appointment comes with a promise of steadfast commitment to the welfare and rights of police officers. In his statement, he emphasized the importance of open communication within the police association, ensuring that every member’s voice is heard and their issues are given due attention. He also took a moment to acknowledge the contributions of Charalambous, lauding his significant impact on improving the policing profession through his union work.
The CPA also took this opportunity to clarify recent rumors regarding changes to the police officers’ overtime pay distribution method. The association firmly dismissed these claims, confirming that no such discussions have taken place after consulting with police headquarters. The CPA reassured its members that it stands firmly against any modifications to the current overtime payment system and will continue to protect the officers’ legitimate interests.
As part of its ongoing efforts to support its members, the CPA highlighted an agreement with the finance ministry that will ensure the gradual restoration of allowances, including shift allowances, by January 1, 2025. This move is seen as a significant step toward enhancing the financial stability and morale among police officers.
With Georgiou at the helm, the CPA appears poised to navigate through its current challenges while maintaining a strong advocacy for its members’ rights and benefits.
