Tribute to Marios Tokas
Following the successful conclusion of the 22nd Cyprus Film Days festival, the Rialto Theatre in Limassol continues to be a hub of cultural activity. In a special event, students and graduates from the Limassol Music School are set to present a heartfelt tribute to Cypriot composer Marios Tokas. The evening of April 23 will see the School Choir, soloists, and instrumental ensembles take the stage, alongside the renowned Greek singer Dimitris Basis. Together, they will perform a concert that celebrates the enduring musical heritage of Tokas, whose compositions have left an indelible mark on the region’s cultural landscape.
The following night, April 24, the Rialto Theatre will resonate with the classical sounds of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as they present the Mozart Requiem concert. This performance is particularly poignant as it aligns with Holy Week, offering a reflective experience through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem in D minor. The orchestra will be under the baton of esteemed conductor Gregory Buchalter, and will feature a lineup of accomplished soloists including sopranos Mariza Anastasiades and Margarita Elia, tenor Andreas Aroditis, and Czech baritone Martin Vodrážka. Adding to the grandeur of the evening, the Aris Choir of Limassol will lend their voices to the performance under the direction of choirmaster Solon Kladas.
As April draws to a close, theatre enthusiasts will have the opportunity to witness Bertolt Brecht’s “The Good Person of Szechwan” brought to life by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation. Scheduled for April 27, this production is directed by Kostas Silvestros who delves into Brecht’s world, translating his powerful narratives and ideals into a compelling stage experience. Performed in Greek with English and Turkish surtitles, this adaptation promises to engage audiences with its thought-provoking content.
Concerts at the Rialto Theatre offer a blend of education and entertainment, as they not only showcase local talent but also pay homage to influential figures in music and literature. Tickets for these events are available online, ensuring that art lovers can secure their seats for what promises to be an enriching conclusion to the month’s festivities.
