Marina and Port Construction Set to Transform Larnaca
The coastal city of Larnaca is poised for a significant transformation as construction work on Larnaca’s marina and port is scheduled to commence this June. This development follows a decisive meeting of the Larnaca town and district development committee, which saw the presence of Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, pushing for progress on the long-awaited project.
Amidst the anticipation, the committee has taken a firm stance with developer Kition Ocean Holdings, insisting on the immediate payment of an outstanding financial guarantee critical for the project’s advancement. The urgency of the matter was highlighted by Vafeades’ warning that legal advice would be sought if the guarantee remained unpaid by the start of the week.
Despite the pressure, Kition Ocean Holdings has maintained silence since the meeting, leaving some uncertainty in the air. Nevertheless, after discussions with President Nikos Christodoulides, they have consented to renew the guarantee. To date, €4.2 million of the anticipated €10 million has been secured, signaling a commitment to moving forward.
Yet, questions linger over the payment schedule, as it seems Kition Ocean Holdings has yet to fulfill the total guarantee amount. This detail could present a potential stumbling block in an otherwise clear path to development.
Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras provided a glimmer of optimism, announcing that the construction license is expected to be issued shortly, with tenders already submitted and awaiting finalization of the agreement. This step is crucial for kickstarting the marina and port construction, which promises to enhance Larnaca’s appeal as a maritime hub.
Efforts to reach Kition Ocean Holdings for comment were met with silence, but the city’s eagerness for this project is anything but. As Larnaca looks towards its future, all eyes are on the unfolding developments that will shape its coastline and community for years to come.
