Efforts Underway to Contain Blaze Near Kouklia
In the serene evening of Wednesday, residents near the village of Kouklia in the Ha Potami area of the Paphos district were alerted to an emerging threat. A large fire had broken out, swiftly consuming dry grass and wild vegetation in its path. The blaze, fueled by strong winds, posed a potential risk to nearby properties, including villas at a local resort.
Responding with urgency, a coordinated team comprising the Fire Service, the forestry department, and the Game Fund was deployed to the scene. Their immediate goal was to contain and control the rapidly spreading fire. The teams’ efforts were intensified by the challenging wind conditions that threatened to escalate the situation further.
This incident marked the second fire-related emergency of the day within the region. Earlier, another fire had been reported in the Limassol state forest, situated between the villages of Vasas Kellakiou and Asgata. Fortunately, that fire, which started at approximately 9.50 am on Wednesday, was successfully brought under control.
