Enhancing Fire Preparedness: BoC Volunteers Train with Hellenic Fire Brigade
In a proactive move to bolster regional fire prevention and response capabilities, the Bank of Cyprus (BoC) SupportCY volunteers underwent an intensive training program conducted by the First EMODE (Special Forest Firefighting Unit) of the Hellenic Fire Brigade. This initiative underscores the growing importance of inter-regional cooperation in mitigating the risks associated with wildfires, particularly in areas classified as the wildland Urban Interface.
The comprehensive training encompassed a broad spectrum of critical topics, including fire laws, fire risk assessment, and advanced fire suppression methods. Participants were also educated on the intricacies of fire zone construction and the paramount importance of scene safety. The hands-on experience was further enhanced by the use of First EMODE’s specialized equipment, allowing volunteers to engage in physical training and simulated firefighting scenarios.
SupportCY volunteers demonstrated their commitment to community safety by participating in grueling marches across challenging mountainous terrains. The pinnacle of their training was a large-scale exercise at the base of the Kithairon range, which featured aerial support, showcasing the dynamic nature of firefighting operations.
Hosted at the Civil Protection Academy in Vilia, West Attica, the training sessions were led by seasoned commanders and instructors from the First EMODE. The blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills aimed to enhance the preparedness of the BoC’s volunteer corps. The collaboration between the Hellenic Fire Brigade and BoC’s SupportCY volunteers is a testament to the shared commitment to safeguard communities against the threat of wildfires.
