A Vision for a United Nicosia
Charalambos Prountzos, an independent candidate running for the position of Nicosia mayor, shared his vision with the press, emphasizing unity and progress. His announcement came as he officially entered the race for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for June.
Prountzos highlighted the importance of this momentous occasion, not just as a celebration of democratic processes but also as a critical juncture for the capital city. With the impending merger of four major urban municipalities—Aglandja, Engomi, Strovolos, and Nicosia—Prountzos underscored the emergence of a larger, more influential Nicosia. This new entity will boast a population exceeding 110,000, a robust workforce, and a significant budget that demands astute management.
Addressing the need for transformative leadership, Prountzos laid out his blueprint for Nicosia’s future. He envisions a “green, intelligent, efficient, and democratic” city that is welcoming and supportive of all its residents. His plan includes fostering a cityscape that thrives on education, research, innovation, and healthy entrepreneurship while remaining committed to sustainable development. Prountzos also emphasized the city’s rich tapestry of history, culture, and experiences as central to its identity.
In his call to action, Prountzos encouraged all eligible voters in Nicosia to participate in the elections. He reiterated the capital’s role as a unifying force that transcends political and geographical divides, urging citizens to come together for the betterment of their shared home.
