Arson Spree in Nicosia Linked to One Suspect
In a series of events that have shaken the community of Nicosia, a 44-year-old man is being held on suspicion of conducting a calculated arson spree. The suspect, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, is believed to be behind eight separate arson attacks that have targeted both buildings and vehicles across the city.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that
The court heard how surveillance footage showed the suspect in proximity to the locations that were later engulfed in flames. In a particularly damning piece of evidence, a video file dated April 15, 2024, depicted the man riding his motorcycle past a car repair shop while apparently recording it on his mobile device. The following day, the same establishment fell victim to an arson attack, a sinister act caught on a closed-circuit surveillance camera.
The list of incidents attributed to the suspect includes the torching of 12 cars at a local repair shop, a cafe, and a cafe-restaurant. The timeline of destruction continued with:
- Arson of three vehicles in Nicosia on November 5, 2023
- Arson of a vehicle in Aglantzia on November 20, 2023
- Arson of a vehicle in Strovolos on November 26, 2023
- Arson of a vehicle in Engomi on January 10, 2024
- Arson of a vehicle in Paliometocho on March 24, 2024
The suspect remained silent throughout the hearing, following the counsel of his attorney. As the investigation continues, the residents of Nicosia are left to ponder the motives behind these destructive acts and hope for a swift resolution to this alarming series of arsons.
