A Silver Jubilee in Harmony: Rialto Theatre’s 25th Anniversary
The Rialto Theatre in Limassol, a beacon of cultural excellence, is poised to celebrate a milestone anniversary. For 25 years, the theatre has been at the forefront of the performing arts scene, and this year, it is hosting a concert that promises to be a highlight of its silver jubilee celebrations.
On May 15, the theatre will resonate with the melodies of Greek composer Stamatis Kraounakis. A long-time ally of the Rialto, Kraounakis will be accompanied by a cadre of skilled musicians, including Dimitrios Andreadis on piano and keys, Nicos Katsikis with his bouzouki, and Lambros Papanicolaou on double bass. Together, they will deliver a unique performance that not only honors the theatre’s storied past but also its ongoing contributions to the arts.
The evening will commence at 8pm, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in a carefully curated programme by Kraounakis. His heartfelt message to Cypriot audiences reflects his deep connection with the Rialto: “Ever since I remember myself in Cyprus, the Rialto has stood by me and my songs. It has been to us a warm embrace that has kept us alive and standing next to our beloved friends in this corner of the Mediterranean.”
He extends his gratitude to Georgia Doetzer for her unwavering support and welcomes the new director with best wishes. The concert will open with the vibrant sounds of the Krama Brass Band, a fresh ensemble founded in 2023 by Andreas Theocharous and Nicholas Georgiou. This band merges six wind instruments with guitar and drums, creating an eclectic fusion of Mediterranean zest and Western musical traditions.
As the Rialto Theatre embarks on its next quarter-century, this concert stands as a testament to its enduring legacy and its commitment to fostering artistic expression. For more information and to secure tickets for this celebratory event, visit www.rialto.com.cy.
