Limassol Community Council Nominations Underway

In a significant step for local governance, the process for selecting the leadership of Limassol’s community councils commenced early Monday morning. The event marks a pivotal moment for community representation across the district, with nominations for presidents and members being accepted in 86 villages.

The four-hour nomination window, spanning from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, saw prospective candidates flock to various submission points. For villages including Alassa, Apaisia, Korfi, Palodia, Paramytha, Spitali, and Fassoula, the Limassol District Office served as the hub for community council nominations.

Meanwhile, the Ayios Ambrosios community council played host to nominations from its own village as well as Agios Therapon, Vasa Koilaniou, Vouni, Lofou, Pano Kyvides, and Pachna. In a similar vein, Agros community council welcomed nominees from Ayios Theodoros, Ayios Ioannis, Agridia, Agros itself, and Kato Mylos.

The Cultural Center of Eptagonia was abuzz with activity as it received nominations for Akapnos, Arakapas, Dierona, Eptagonia, Kellaki, Klonari, Prastio Kellakiou, and Sykopetra. Kalo Chorio primary school opened its doors to candidates from Ayios Konstantinos, Ayios Pavlos, Apsiou, Gerasa, Zoopigi, Kalo Chorio, and Louvaras.

Community involvement continued at the Kyperounda community council office with submissions from Amiandos, Dymes, Kyperounda, Pelendri, Potamitissa, and Chandria. The Omodos community council office was designated for Arsos, Dora, Kissousa, Mallia, Omodos, Potamiou, and Souni–Zanatzia.

Foini cultural centre became the focal point for those from Ayios Demetrios, Kaminaria, Lemythou, Paleomylos, Prodromos, Treis Elies, and Foini. The Paramali community council was ready to register candidates from Ayios Thomas, Alektora, Anogyra, Avdimou, Paramali, Pissouri, Plataniskia and Prastio Avdimos.

For residents of Koilani, Koukas, Mandria, Moniatis, Pera-Pedi, Kato Platres and Pano Platres the council office of Pera-Pedi was the destination for their nomination papers. Asgata, Vasa Kellakiou , Monagrouli, Monastery, Pareklissia, Pentakomo, Pyrgos and Sanida saw their nominations being processed at the Pyrgos community council.

Concluding the list of venues was the Trimiklini community council office which catered to nominations from Ayios Georgios Sylikou, Ayios Mamas, Dora, Kapileio, Lania, Limnati, Monagri, Sylikou and Trimiklini.

The day’s events underscored the importance of civic engagement in Limassol. With the submission phase now complete, the communities eagerly await the next phase in their local democratic process.
