Investigation Deepens into Lakatamia Shooting
In a recent development, the attempted murder of 34-year-old Demetris Andronicou, also known as Demetroui, has gripped Lakatamia. Andronicou was critically wounded after being shot three times, with one of the bullets striking his neck. He remains hospitalized in a critical condition.
The complexity of the case has been underscored by police spokesperson Christos Andreou, who described the police investigation as “a difficult and highly intricate matter.” In an effort to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting, seven individuals have been remanded for eight days, while another three have been released following initial inquiries.
Further insights into the case were provided by Andreou during an interview with Alpha on Monday. He revealed that both the planners and the executors of the crime are believed to be among those arrested. The police investigation is now progressing on two main fronts: a scientific examination of evidence gathered from the crime scene and the residences of the arrested suspects, and an inquiry into potential connections with other recent criminal activities, including arson incidents.
The quest to uncover the motive behind the shooting is a top priority for investigators. Andreou expressed the urgency of determining “what exactly lies behind it, and why this criminal act was committed.”
Complicating matters further, authorities have yet to recover the weapon used in the attempted murder, and the motorbike believed to have been used by the assailants is still missing. However, a destroyed motorbike reported stolen was discovered in Aglantzia on Saturday. Investigators are now probing whether there is any connection between this find and Andronicou’s case.
The community remains on edge as the investigation continues, with hopes that the authorities will soon shed light on this violent incident and bring those responsible to justice.
