Strengthening Maritime Ties: Cyprus and Guangzhou Forge Ahead
In a significant move to bolster maritime relations, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping from Cyprus has been actively engaging with key players in the shipping industry during a recent visit to Guangzhou. The Deputy Minister, Marina Hadjimanolis, took part in a series of strategic meetings from April 25 to 27, which were aimed at fostering stronger ties with shipping companies, brokerage firms, and financial institutions in the bustling Chinese city.
The highlight of Hadjimanolis’ visit was the naming ceremony of the “AAL Limassol,” a newly built cargo vessel that is set to join the ranks of the Cyprus ship registry. This vessel, which is part of AAL Shipping’s fleet under Schoeller Holdings, boasts cutting-edge environmental features and meets the highest industry standards. During the ceremony, Hadjimanolis expressed gratitude to Heinrich Schoeller for his unwavering support towards the growth of Cyprus’s maritime sector.
Moreover, Hadjimanolis seized the opportunity to underscore the benefits of vessel registration under the Cypriot flag to Guangzhou’s maritime community. The Deputy Minister emphasized the comprehensive services and advantages that come with the Cypriot registry, which is renowned for its quality and reliability.
Engaging in discussions on the sidelines of these events, Hadjimanolis met with executives from various sectors, including local officials from Guangzhou’s provincial administration. A particularly noteworthy meeting was held with the president of COSCO Shipping Bulk, recognized as the largest bulk carrier management company. The talks centered on the potential for COSCO’s fleet to join the Cyprus ship registry, highlighting the strategic importance of such collaborations.
The visit was not only a testament to Cyprus’s commitment to expanding its maritime footprint but also served as a platform for potential future partnerships. Cyprus Ambassador to China, Francis-Galatia Lanitou Williams, accompanied Hadjimanolis, demonstrating the high level of diplomatic support for these maritime initiatives.
