Ypsonas Students to Abstain from Classes in Protest
In an unprecedented move, students from six educational institutions in Ypsonas will take a stand by not attending their first period classes on May 17, 2024. The schools participating in this action are B’ and C’ Ypsona Kindergartens, A’, B’, and C’ Ypsonas Elementary Schools, and the Ypsonas Gymnasium.
The decision for this collective action comes after a prolonged period of unsuccessful negotiations. “Esta ação resulta do facto de o Comité de Coordenação das Associações de Pais ter esgotado todas as possibilidades de diálogo com o Ministro da Educação e outras autoridades para resolver problemas de longa data nas escolas,” the Coordinating Committee of the Parent Associations stated. Despite efforts since November, promises to address the enduring issues remain unfulfilled.
With the deadline set by the parents having passed on April 26, the abstention marks the first of six agreed measures to be implemented. The parents’ associations are determined to highlight the perceived neglect and demand equal treatment for their children’s education. “Os alunos de seis escolas de Ypsonas começarão a faltar às aulas durante o primeiro período a 17 de maio de 2024,” they announced, signaling the start of their protest.
The collective statement from the parents ends with a call to action, emphasizing their refusal to accept anything less than what is deserved for their children’s educational environment. The community awaits the response from educational authorities as the date of the protest approaches.
