Cyprus Climbing Community Gears Up for Spring Bouldering Festival

Spring Bouldering Festival: A Unifying Event for Cyprus Climbers

The picturesque village of Droushia/Inia is set to become a hub for the Cyprus climbing community as the Shinosintrofia Climbing Club hosts the 3rd Spring Bouldering Festival on May 11 and 12. This annual climbing gathering is not just a competition but a celebration of climbing, nature, and camaraderie.

Day one of the festival kicks off at the Alykou rocks, where participants can register and fuel up with coffee before tackling the boulders. The event caters to all levels, with a bouldering competition for the seasoned climbers and an introduction class for those new to the sport. As the sun sets, the community will gather at the Primary School of Inia for a well-deserved dinner prepared by chef Tasos Michael, where the day’s champions will be celebrated to the backdrop of lively music.

Sunday promises an equally engaging experience, starting with morning yoga to stretch out before another day of climbing. The day will feature an introduction to sport climbing and highline, as well as continued bouldering until the late afternoon. This is a chance for everyone to learn, practice, and enjoy the thrill of climbing in a supportive environment.

The festival is keen on inclusivity, offering beginners’ classes on Saturday by expert teachers from Red Point, Ungravity Climbing, and Limassol Climbing Club. Similarly, Sunday’s sport climbing session will be overseen by professionals from One Step Further and Climb and Hike. These sessions are designed to give novices a solid foundation in climbing, lasting two to three hours based on attendance.

While the competitive aspect of the climbing festival is reserved for experienced climbers, newcomers are encouraged to immerse themselves in the festival atmosphere. They can partake in the dinner, mingle with fellow enthusiasts, and pick up valuable climbing insights.

The 3rd Spring Bouldering Festival is free for club members and offers a nominal €15 fee for non-members. Those interested in joining this exciting event can find more details and register through the Facebook event page titled “Spring Bouldering Festival 2024”.
