Examining the Progress of Paphos’ Transportation Projects
In a proactive move to address growing concerns, Alexis Vafeades, the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, conducted an on-site review of several critical transportation projects in Paphos. The visit comes at a crucial time as stakeholders express unease over the pace of development for key infrastructure initiatives.
The minister’s itinerary included an inspection of the first phase of the new Paphos-Polis road, the Paphos airport road, and the planned marina, which are seen as pivotal for the province’s connectivity and economic growth. The progress of these projects was a central topic during a strategic meeting held at the offices of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce.
Further concerns were addressed as Vafeades toured the newly completed public transportation stations in Karavella and the tourist area. Stakeholders had raised issues regarding their functionality and the problematic progress that seemed to plague these sites.
In response to these discussions, Vafeades reassured that the government is not only aware but also
Collaboration extended beyond commerce as the Minister met with the Chamber of Commerce and later with the leadership of the Police Directorate. The latter meeting focused on enhancing traffic management within the city. Proposals such as a new roundabout at the Police Directorate entrance and traffic lights at a busy intersection were positively received by Vafeades, hinting at imminent action to improve traffic flow and safety.
With these visits and meetings, it is evident that the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works is taking a hands-on approach in Paphos. By examining issues and delays firsthand, Vafeades is spearheading efforts to expedite the implementation of projects that are essential for the province’s transportation network and overall progress.
