Armenian Faces: A Tribute to History and Memory
In a solemn commemoration of the Remembrance Day of the Armenian Genocide, the Pierides Museum – Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in Larnaca has become the venue for a poignant exhibition by artist Khaldoon Daud. The exhibition, titled “Armenian Faces,” opened its doors on April 22, with a ceremony graced by the presence of Vartkes Mahdessian, the Representative of the Armenian Religious group in the house of Representatives of Cyprus. The opening was further embellished by the emotive performance of Armenian hymns by Maria Moskofian.
The artworks, which will be on display until May 17, are a result of Khaldoon’s long-standing fascination with Armenian culture, creativity, and craftsmanship. The exhibition is not just a showcase of artistic talent but also serves as an act of remembrance for the genocide victims, with Khaldoon’s pieces reflecting on the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who perished during the 1915 Ottoman Genocide.
The organisers have expressed their views on the significance of Khaldoon’s work, noting that his art reaffirms solidarity with the Armenian people, particularly in Cyprus. Occupying two spaces within the museum, the exhibition presents works created by Khaldoon during his stay in Cyprus from 2023 to 2024. Each piece is a dedication to the souls lost during the Armenian Genocide and to the Armenian community as a whole.
