Re:Source 2.0: A Fusion of Art and Environmental Consciousness
In the heart of Limassol, an art exhibition is unfolding that transcends the conventional gallery experience. The Re:Source 2.0 exhibition, a collaborative effort between City Friends Club and Artnow agency, is set to transform The Warehouse by ITQuarter into a hub of environmental awareness from May 17 to 21. Featuring Cyprus-based artists, this event is not just about art; it’s a call to action for ecological mindfulness.
Art critic and Artnow co-founder Polina Dobrogaeva emphasizes the dual nature of the event: “It’s a social event,” she states, aiming to “change people’s habits” and instill eco-friendly practices. The exhibition’s expansion from its inaugural three-day event in 2023 is a testament to its success and the growing concern for environmental issues in Cyprus.
With over 100 applications, more than 30 artists and groups will showcase their work, each piece offering a unique perspective on the theme of nature and humanity’s impact on the environment. Anastasia Shamshurova, another Artnow co-founder, highlights the diversity of the artworks, from installations using recycled materials to conceptual pieces that reflect on human consumption.
The event also boasts an array of parallel activities designed to educate and engage the public. Environmental workshops, lectures on sustainable fashion and ecological theatre, and even a treasure hunt for children are part of the rich program. These initiatives aim to attract a wide audience beyond the art community, including families, students, and young creatives residing in Cyprus.
Commitment to sustainability extends to the exhibition’s operations as well. In an effort to minimize environmental impact, traditional paper leaflets and catalogues have been replaced by digital alternatives. This move aligns with the overarching goal of Re:Source 2.0: to promote eco-sustainability through creative expression.
The Re:Source 2.0 exhibition is more than just an art show; it’s an immersive experience that bridges the gap between art and environmental activism. As Polina and Anastasia put it, the event is about empowering individuals to recognize that their actions can lead to positive change, both locally in Cyprus and globally.
For those interested in attending this groundbreaking event, details can be found on the City Friends Club and Artnow agency websites. The opening night kicks off at 6 pm on May 17th, with the exhibition open daily from 11 am to 7 pm until May 21st.
