Developments in the Palaichori – Anthoupolis Attempted Murder Case
Amidst the solemnity of Easter Sunday, the Nicosia CID made a significant move in the ongoing investigation of the attempted murder of Dimitris Andronikou. The incident, which occurred on the Palaichori – Anthoupolis road, has seen new developments as a person of Romanian origin was taken into custody by the authorities.
Reports from Philenews indicate that this individual had previously been arrested with nine others but was subsequently released. His attorney, Alexandros Saouris, had contested the lack of evidence to support the police’s request for his client’s detention. In response, the Magistrate concurred that for this individual, as well as two other Greek Cypriots, the evidence did not substantiate “reasonable suspicion” for their involvement, leading to the rejection of their detention orders. Meanwhile, seven other suspects were granted an 8-day detention order by the court.
Despite the initial release, the re-arrest suggests that CID investigators have since encountered new evidence that implicates the suspect. The suspect is believed to have provided the physical perpetrators with a stolen scooter-type motorcycle, playing a critical role in the execution of the crime against Andronikou.
The case also involves two other key suspects, referred to as the 7th and 10th suspects, who have been detained since Sunday. The former is alleged to have been at the helm of the stolen scooter during the incident, while the latter is suspected by police to be the gunman who fired at least three shots at Andronikou.
The Nicosia CID continues its thorough investigation into this complex case, piecing together the events that led to the near-fatal attack on Andronikou. As each layer unfolds, the dedication of the CID to bringing justice in this case remains unwavering.
