Primary School in Livadia Faces Vandalism Over Easter Weekend
In a disheartening incident, a primary school in Livadia became the target of vandalism over the Easter weekend. The damage was discovered by cleaners who arrived at the school on Sunday morning, revealing a scene of disarray and destruction.
Larnaca Police Spokesperson, Spyros Chrysostomou, confirmed that a report was filed at the Voroklini Police Station on Holy Saturday night. The report detailed acts of vandalism that included damage to the school’s property. Several benches were harmed, with one being completely burned. Additionally, a classroom was left in chaos as unknown individuals scattered notebooks and other educational materials across the floor.
Petros Savva, secretary of the Livadia school board, spoke to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) about the extent of the vandalism. On Saturday afternoon, an unidentified person trespassed onto school grounds and began throwing stones, resulting in three shattered windows. The same perpetrator escalated their destructive behavior by climbing onto the roof and dislodging tiles. Inside a classroom, books and stationery were strewn about, and waste bins were overturned.

Amidst these events, a 10-year-old pupil allegedly caused damage to windows and roof tiles at the school. The young student was discovered by a school guard during the Easter holidays, who promptly alerted the authorities.
The school board is taking measures to address the aftermath of these incidents. Savva indicated that they would seek compensation from the parents of the 10-year-old for the damages incurred, which are estimated to be around one thousand euros.
A formal complaint regarding the incident has been lodged with the Voroklini Police Station, as the community grapples with the senseless destruction and looks towards restoring order and safety to their educational environment.
