On Bodies Festival: A Convergence of Dance, Performance Art, and Healing
The vibrant city of Nicosia is set to host the latest edition of the On Bodies Festival, a much-anticipated event that shines a light on contemporary dance and performance art. From May 16 to 19, Dance House Lefkosia will become a hub for artistic expression, showcasing choreography and the human body as powerful mediums for exploration.
Over its 16-year journey, the festival has been a launchpad for numerous artists and groups, offering them a platform to debut their talents to diverse audiences. This year’s theme, Healing, delves into various dimensions— from treating physical wounds to overcoming psychological traumas and striving for mental and physical well-being.
The organizers emphasize the importance of addressing collective trauma, particularly in regions with histories of conflict like Cyprus. They believe that understanding and attention are crucial for communities to heal from the scars of aggression.
A blend of young, emerging, and seasoned artists from Cyprus and across the globe will present their work. Performances will grace the main stage, spill into the garden, and outdoor spaces of Dance House Lefkosia, and extend to other collaborating venues.
In a unique collaboration with EDN – European Dance Development Network and Dance Gate Lefkosia – Cyprus, the festival will also feature Atelier Healing: Becoming Well Again. This segment includes an array of talks, discussions, workshops, curated walks, and performative happenings designed to enrich the festival experience.
