Easter Surge in Supermarket Activity in Cyprus

Koursaris, in his conversation with the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), pointed out that economic constraints have caused consumers to focus on necessities, maintaining supermarket activity at levels comparable to the previous year’s Easter season. Povek’s general secretary, Andreas Hadjiadamos, shared Koursaris’ observations but attributed the steady consumer interest to the variety of offers available in supermarkets during the festive period.
Hadjiadamos emphasized that supermarkets are adept at analyzing consumer responses and adjusting prices accordingly to ensure essential goods are accessible. This strategy has led to satisfactory activity across supermarkets of various sizes. He also noted a pattern of stable consumer response during festive periods, a shift from previous years where declining trends were observed due to what he described as “wrong strategies implemented by supermarkets.”
Supermarkets have been responsive to changes in consumer behavior, adapting their offerings each year to align with customer preferences and demands. Post-holiday periods typically see a dip in activity, prompting supermarkets to devise new strategies and promote different products.
Despite the bustling supermarket scene, Koursaris highlighted a downturn in the retail trade sector. Traditional Easter purchases such as clothing, footwear, and gifts were less prevalent this year. He also mentioned that financial support provided to vulnerable groups was largely directed towards essential items rather than discretionary spending.
