Escalation in Strovolos Arson Cases Leads to Rearrest
In a recent development that has rattled the quiet community of Strovolos in Nicosia, a 46-year-old man has been rearrested in connection with a series of arson attacks. The suspect, who was already in custody for three separate arson incidents from March and April 2024, is now linked to an additional twelve cases that have occurred since July 2023.
The police apprehended the man after officers observed him acting suspiciously near the scene of a car fire in the early hours of April 29. This incident was followed by the discovery of an attempted arson at a nearby playground. Further investigations led to evidence implicating the suspect in the arson of another vehicle on March 18, once again within the Strovolos area.
The suspect’s alleged involvement extends to six vehicle fires and six residential arsons over a span of eight months. The police statement highlighted the breadth of the suspect’s purported activities, underscoring the concern for public safety and property within the community.
Following his court appearance on April 30, where he was remanded for eight days, a new judicial arrest warrant was issued based on fresh evidence. The Nicosia CID is actively continuing its investigations into these incidents, and the district court is anticipated to take further action against the man.
The series of fires has prompted a rigorous police investigation, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The community of Strovolos is hoping for a swift resolution to these unsettling events as the police work diligently to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and their properties.
