The €20 million cost of the project not only covers the extensive construction and landscaping work but also ensures ten years of maintenance for the new urban oasis. The mayor highlighted that the concreting work is approximately 90 percent complete, and the hard infrastructure is swiftly approaching full completion. Furthermore, the planting phase has already commenced, signaling the project’s transition from construction to beautification.
Once complete, the site will boast a large pedestrian area, approximately 550 parking spaces, and a variety of amenities including cafes and restaurants. A central feature will be a plaza with a water feature, designed to be a focal point for relaxation and social interaction within the city.
The renovated park will seamlessly integrate into Nicosia’s broader vision for a pedestrian-friendly zone. This zone will encompass several key cultural and recreational sites including the new archaeological museum, the revamped municipal theatre, and an enhanced bike-lane area. Additional upgrades include the areas around the parliament building, the municipal gardens, the restored Paphos Gate, and the connected sections of the moat and Eleftheria square. The project also extends to the improved Makarios avenue, Stasikratous street, and the Thoc building, creating a cohesive and modern urban landscape.
This extensive renovation project promises to redefine Nicosia’s city center as a hub of culture, leisure, and community engagement, further enhancing the capital’s status as a dynamic European city.
