Exploring the Soul Through Art: Anthoula Simadiakou’s Debut Exhibition
The bustling art scene of Nicosia is set to be enriched with a new art exhibition at Ekate (Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts), showcasing the evocative works of Anthoula Simadiakou. Titled Wanderer, or ‘Periplanomeni’ in Greek, the exhibition will commence on May 17 with an opening reception at 7:30 pm and will run until May 25.
Anthoula Simadiakou, a well-traveled artist, brings to life her experiences from around the globe. Her art is a testament to her encounters with diverse cultures and the human spirit. The exhibition promises a visual odyssey that traverses a spectrum of emotions and universal truths. The faces and scenes captured in her pieces are mementos from her time spent in Nepal and wandering through African landscapes.
The collection is a vibrant display of mixed media, where Simadiakou employs acrylics, charcoal, inks, gouache, collages, and monotypes to craft her narratives. Her dynamic use of color is intended to inject each piece with vitality and a sense of explosive expression. Her work oscillates between the abstract and the concrete, yet always aims to engage the viewer on a deeper level.
Simadiakou’s philosophy is encapsulated in her own words: “My goal is not to depict specific faces or forms,” she explains, “but to invite the viewer to embrace the beauty of diversity and feel the truths of the human soul.” This debut exhibition is not just a showcase of her artistic talent but also an invitation to explore the emotional depths of her subjects.
The Wanderer exhibition is poised to be an immersive experience that will stir the heart, stimulate the senses, and offer a glimpse into the kaleidoscopic soul of the artist herself. Visitors can immerse themselves in Simadiakou’s world at Ekate, Nicosia, with viewing hours from Monday to Friday between 4 pm and 8 pm, and on weekends from 10:30 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm.
