Island-Wide Fundraiser Launched by Cyprus Health Minister
May 8, 2024, marked the commencement of the Cyprus Red Cross (CRC) Pancyprian fundraiser, an event that has become a beacon of hope and support for humanitarian efforts across the island. The launch, officiated by Minister of Health Michael Damianos, coincided with the global celebration of World Red Cross/Red Crescent Day and was graced by the presence of CRC President Fotini Papadopoulou and the unwavering support of OPAP Cyprus.
Running through May 26, the fundraiser is a cornerstone for the CRC’s humanitarian programmes. Minister Damianos praised the CRC’s work, emphasizing the significant impact of their efforts in tandem with state initiatives. He highlighted the
CRC President Papadopoulou addressed the gathering, outlining the critical role of the fundraiser in supporting various programmes and responding to emergencies in collaboration with government agencies. She acknowledged the Cypriot community and volunteers whose contributions are vital to the fundraiser’s success. Papadopoulou also lauded OPAP Cyprus for their receptiveness and support towards the CRC’s objectives.
OPAP Cyprus Chief Commercial Officer Alexandros Ntavos echoed this sentiment, affirming that supporting the CRC aligns with OPAP Cyprus’s core values. Ntavos assured continued backing from OPAP Cyprus, citing their long-standing commitment to sectors such as health, culture, and education, all while upholding respect for societal institutions and processes.
The inauguration of the fundraiser was not just about speeches; it also featured a voluntary blood donation drive and musical performances, symbolizing the community’s collective spirit in supporting the Red Cross’ mission.
