UAE Tourist Market for Cyprus Shows Promising Growth
The Deputy Minister of Tourism for Cyprus, Kostas Koumis, has highlighted a promising uptick in the tourist market from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Following his participation in key industry events, Koumis emphasized the importance of focusing on Middle Eastern countries and Asia to bolster tourism.
At the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition in Dubai, Koumis spearheaded a Cypriot delegation alongside industry partners. The team engaged in strategic discussions with travel agents and airlines to increase tourist flows from the UAE and enhance Cyprus’ air connectivity. The delegation’s agenda included meetings with top executives from Jazeera, Gulf Air, and Air India.
Concurrently, Koumis attended the 13th Annual Investment Meeting (AIM Congress 2024) in Abu Dhabi, which concentrated on adapting to evolving investment landscapes. A notable highlight was his private meeting with UAE Minister of Commerce, Tani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. The congress also provided a platform for the Cypriot delegation to network with prominent figures in tourism and investment sectors.
The ministry’s statement underscored the significance of the interactions with the head of the International Investors Council of the UAE and officials from the UN Tourism’s investment department. These meetings were described as “extremely important” for future collaborations.
Koumis expressed satisfaction with the 14 percent increase in arrivals from the UAE last year and anticipates further growth. He revealed that promotional actions targeting these markets are set for implementation, with a strategic focus on the years beyond 2025.
Regarding the burgeoning tourism market in India, Koumis acknowledged the potential, noting that future developments hinge on the plans of interested companies. Cyprus is committed to enhancing demand from India, particularly in specialized tourism segments.
In terms of investments, Koumis confirmed that the AIM Congress facilitated significant contacts, laying the groundwork for strategic partnerships with the UAE in investment fields. These developments mark a step forward in strengthening economic ties between Cyprus and Middle Eastern nations.
