Crackdown on Illegal Employment in Paphos
In a recent operation, Paphos police have detained three individuals for allegedly working illegally within the town. The suspects, two men and a woman, were taken into custody on Thursday, with accusations pointing towards illicit employment practices.
The arrested individuals include two men, aged 28 and 24, and a 23-year-old woman. Details emerged that the men were employed at a local restaurant, while the woman was found working at the Paphos market. The 24-year-old man is said to have been in Cyprus without legal authorization since August, and his 28-year-old counterpart since November. The young woman reportedly had been in the country since March.
Alongside the arrested workers, their alleged employers, two men aged 58 and 41, have also been implicated in the case. They have been formally accused and are expected to be summoned to court at a future date. The decision to prosecute the employers now rests with the legal service.
Assistant operations director of Paphos police, Michalis Nikolaou, confirmed the details of the operation. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to address the issue of individuals working illegally and emphasized the importance of maintaining lawful employment practices.
The recent arrests underscore a growing concern over illegal employment in Cyprus. Authorities are increasing surveillance and enforcement measures to ensure that all workers in Paphos, and across the nation, are operating within the bounds of the law.
