Maintaining Momentum: Borussia Dortmund’s Approach to Upcoming Bundesliga Clash
As the Bundesliga season draws to a close, Borussia Dortmund is not taking any chances when it comes to keeping their competitive edge sharp. With the Champions League final on the horizon, coach Edin Terzic has emphasized the importance of maintaining the team’s rhythm as they prepare to face Mainz 05 this Saturday.
Dortmund’s position in the Bundesliga is secure, sitting comfortably in fifth place with Champions League participation for the next season already in the bag. However, Terzic is not one to let his team rest on their laurels. The recent 2-0 aggregate victory over Paris St Germain has propelled them into the Champions League final against Real Madrid on June 1, and Terzic is keen on keeping his players focused and intense.
“Our season just got a bit longer and we want to keep the rhythm up,” Terzic stated during a press conference. He plans to implement squad rotation to ensure players remain physically and emotionally prepared while providing opportunities for others to step up. “It is about what we have built up in the past weeks and us wanting to still achieve something big,” he added, underscoring his commitment to ending the season on a high note.
Mainz 05, currently embroiled in a relegation battle, will not be underestimated by Dortmund. Despite last season’s disappointment when Mainz secured a 2-2 draw that cost Dortmund the league title, Terzic holds no grudges. He acknowledged Mainz’s fair play and intensity, recognizing that the upcoming soccer match could significantly impact their opponent’s fate in the league.
For Terzic and his squad, the match against Mainz also signifies the beginning of a three-week preparation period leading up to the Champions League final. “We celebrated our qualification to the final on the night and now we have to deal with the situation pragmatically,” Terzic remarked, signaling a shift in focus towards leveraging the remaining two Bundesliga matches as a springboard for European success.
