Alleged Burglary Syndicate Faces Court Remand
In a recent development that has caught the attention of Paphos residents, a woman and two men have been remanded in custody following their arrest over an alleged series of burglaries. The suspects, aged 36, 35, and 32, were detained last Thursday and are believed to be behind a spate of 20 burglaries that have plagued the district.
The accused faced the Paphos district court on Friday, but due to the proceedings extending past the close of business hours, the hearing was adjourned. The court reconvened on Saturday morning, resulting in an eight-day remand for each of the suspects. This legal move allows authorities to keep the suspects in custody while they continue their investigation into the burglaries.
According to Paphos police spokesman Michalis Nikolaou, the alleged criminal activities spanned over three and a half years, starting from November 2020 up to April of this year. The total value of goods reported stolen in these incidents amounts to a staggering €865,000. Items taken include a significant quantity of gold jewelry, various watches, and other valuables.
Following their arrests, police conducted thorough searches of the suspects’ residences. Nikolaou confirmed that a “large amount of gold jewellery” among other items were recovered during these searches, which have now been seized as evidence. The discovery of these items could potentially link the trio to the series of burglaries under investigation.
As the community awaits further developments, the police have assured that their probe into the matter is active and ongoing. With the suspects now on remand, authorities are likely to delve deeper into the case, possibly uncovering more details about the extent of the alleged burglary ring’s operations.
The arrests and subsequent remands signify a significant step forward in addressing the string of property crimes that have unsettled the Paphos area. Residents are hopeful that these developments will lead to a decrease in such incidents and restore a sense of security in their community.
