Supporting Nicosia’s Furry Friends: A Day of Giving and Adoption
In the heart of Nicosia, a special event is set to unfold this Saturday, with the aim of rallying community support for the 2nd Chance Dogs shelter. This initiative, a collaboration between the shelter and the Cyprus Radio and Television Foundation (CyBC), is endorsed by the Strovolos municipality and council member George Hadjiyannou. The event promises to be a day of compassion and action for animal lovers and philanthropists alike.
From the early hours of 8:30 until 11:30 and then again from 16:00 to 19:00, the CyBC courtyard will serve as a hub for public awareness and support. Attendees are encouraged to contribute by bringing donations such as dry food, canned food, or treats, directly benefiting the shelter’s canine residents. In a generous act of solidarity, the Strovolos municipality has pledged to contribute €500 worth of pet food to the cause.
The event is not just about donations; it’s also an opportunity for adoption. Those considering expanding their family with a four-legged member will have the chance to meet the shelter dogs. Each dog is looking for a loving home and a second chance at life. The 2nd Chance Dogs shelter, nestled in Geri, has been working since 2015 to provide suitable living conditions for up to 60 dogs at a time while they await their forever homes.
The shelter’s ambitious mission extends beyond providing temporary refuge; they aim to reintegrate an impressive 200 dogs into the community annually. For those unable to attend but still wishing to help or perhaps meet a potential new companion, the shelter maintains an active presence on social media. Additionally, detailed information about their work and the dogs currently available for adoption can be found on their website at
This Saturday’s event is more than just an occasion; it’s a testament to the community’s commitment to its non-human members. It’s an invitation to make a difference, be it through a donation or by opening one’s heart and home to a dog in need.
