Record-Breaking Fitness Session at Mera Peak
In an extraordinary display of endurance and strength, a team led by Cypriot fitness trainer and mountaineer Alexis Economides has set a new world record for the highest altitude fitness session ever conducted. On May 6, the group reached the summit of Mera Peak in Nepal, an impressive 6,476 meters above sea level, to accomplish this remarkable achievement.
The team included Alexis, his compatriot Evgenia Konstantinou, Trevor Jones from Britain, and four Sherpas who were trained by Alexis for the demanding task. Their journey to the top was preceded by weeks of intensive training in Cyprus, followed by a multi-day trek in Nepal to acclimatize to the high-altitude Himalayan environment.
“Training at such a high altitude was incredibly challenging,” Alexis Economides remarked. The thin air at such elevation made it difficult to perform even basic high-intensity exercises. However, the team’s unwavering spirit and determination saw them through the demanding conditions.

Trevor Jones described the experience as surreal, noting that the physical demands were counterbalanced by the immense sense of accomplishment felt by each team member. Similarly, Evgenia Constantinou highlighted the significance of the record, emphasizing it as a testament to what can be achieved through teamwork and dedication.
Their descent was not without peril as a snowstorm forced them to seek shelter for several hours. The ordeal underscored the inherent risks of high-altitude mountaineering. In a poignant tribute, the team left behind a flag on Mera Peak in memory of a guide and friend who tragically did not survive an expedition on the same mountain four months prior.
Alexis and his team are determined to continue their pursuit of extreme challenges and human potential. They are committed to promoting physical health and resilience through future events that push the boundaries of what’s possible in altitude fitness sessions.
